Addiction Treatment
There is Hope for those who make the decision to get help for their addiction, regardless of what it is: Alcohol, Drugs, Food, Hoarding, Gambling, Sex, Compulsive Shopping.
It is critical that individuals who make the decision to go into treatment be admitted to a treatment center that will work best for them. Obviously the cost of treatment needs to be considered, but it should not be the number one factor. If God started the intervention process (which we believe He did), then He is able to work out the financial situation. Even if money is not a factor, do not be fooled into thinking that the most expensive treatment facility is the best facility. Just like the most expensive addiction intervention does not mean the best intervention.
There are several treament centers that mainly use behavor modification as their modality. This can be helpful, but is very limited. Even more important than the addict changing their behavior is them changing the way they think–how they see life.
A mind that is not changed is a body that will continue doing the same thing.
Along with changing behavior and the way they think, addicts need to learn also on how to deal with their emotions. Emotions that are not dealt with means almost for sure very bad relationships in the addicts life.
Another areas that needs to be addressed in the addict's life is the spiritual side of life. We are spiritual beings. We were not made to do things on our own. To live a fruitful life requires being connected with God and others. Treatment clinics that avoid this aspect of life normally do not have very good recovery success. |
